Behind every small business, there is a story worth knowing
Step into the rich history of Marine Park Hardware, nestled in the Marine Park neighborhood of Brooklyn.
The Marine Park area, once lush farmland owned by the Lott family, witnessed the transformation of Brooklyn’s rural landscape into a thriving urban center during the early 20th century.
As development progressed southward in Kings County, the Lott family sold off much of their land to real estate developers, paving the way for the emergence of the Marine Park neighborhood. Among the first establishments to grace this new landscape was 3502 Avenue S, a mixed-used property erected around 1926, likely by the H. & E. Building Corporation.
By 1928, the storefront proudly bore the name of the Marine Park Hardware Company. The store was owned by Dominic and Gracie Giordano, Italian immigrants who arrived in America in 1911. While the 38-year-old Dominic pursued his career as a painter and decorator in the building industry, the 50-year-old Gracie skillfully manage the hardware store.
Throughout the years, the hardware store weathered changes in ownership and even changes in name. However, in 1994, it was reverently restored to its original name, Marine Park Hardware, under the dedicated ownership of Greg Borruso, who continues to uphold its legacy to this day.
